Dear class,
This week, we're celebrating "Teacher's Appreciation Week." To honor this week, I'd like you to tell me what you hope for in a teacher. What do you think makes a good teacher? Maybe some of you have thought about becoming a teacher someday. You can also ask me questions this week about being a teacher. Write about any teacher you'd like and tell us why this person made a difference in your life. This blog is for fun and won't count towards extra credit. If you write about a teacher at our school, I'll make sure to deliver your message. Remember to check your work for mistakes.

What I hope for in a teacher is kindness, helpfulness, and sweetness. What makes a good teacher is when they give us tips and when they help you with spelling or how to solve a problem.Do you like being a teacher? Is it hard?

What I hope for in a teacher is all of Ms.Gessner's talents. Is it hard being a teacher? Do you get stressed sometimes? What is your favorite class? Who's your favorite student? Just kidding! What are you going to miss most about taeching? Those are some questions I'd like to ask Ms.Gessner(but not the 5th one), and they are the talents I'd like to see in a teacher.

Hi Simon & Ciera,
Here are the answers to some of your questions.
I do like being a teacher Ciera. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in third grade. I had a chalkboard and I would pretend to teach. My stuffed animals were the students. It was so much fun!
Simon, it can be hard being a teacher. There is always work to bring home like correcting papers, writing newsletters, making lesson plans, etc. It is worth it, though! I love to see students make progress. It's a great feeling to know I can teach you new skills like cursive or multiplication.
I have enjoyed all my classes. Each one brings new challenges, personalities, excitement, etc.
Thanks for participating in the blog!
~ Ms. Gessner
A good teacher is fun and makes fun games out of lessons. She/he disciplines her/his students. I also think a good teacher is kind and always helps her/his students. A teacher should be creative and has all of her/his supplies ready. She/he should keep her/his classroom clean and organized.
I want to be a teacher someday because I want to teach. After being a teacher I want to be a very sucessful lawyer and retire early.
My Mom's parents were teachers and my Auntie Pam is a teacher too. I'm very proud of them because they're teachers.
Finally, I have a couple of questions for Ms. Gessner:
1.What is your favorite subject to teach?
2.How do you come up with so many brilliant projects for us to do?
THE END!!!!!!!
~Abi~
What I look for in a good taecher is If there nice or how good teach and what they teach makes sense and if it's fun.
My popo is a hero to me here's the story.
My popo was a teacher and one of her students choked on a nickle and so she didn't know the hymlick maneuver, so she grabed her tummy and she went down the stairs to the nurse but by the time she got their the nickle was out.
from,
Julia
I think a good teacher would make boring subjects fun. If they just teach you stuff and do almost nothing fun that probably won't be your most favorite teacher. But my mom's favorite teachers made her work hard and she felt very proud of herself. Ms. Gessner:
How do you ever manage to stay awake during school?
Have you ever taught at another school other than St. Francis?
by Celia
I think a good teacher challenges each student to work up to their highest ability. They should be kind, but also a little strict. I think teachers should be organized, too. They should plan things out well and have fun activities. Most of all, teachers should encourage kids and have a sprinkle of humor.
My questions for Ms. Gessner: 1. What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?
2. What is your favorite fun activity?
3. What is your most embarrassing moment as a teacher?
4. What is the most amazing achievement a student has made in all the years you have been teaching?
I'd like to write about Ms. Gessner and Mrs. Riedeman because they are both great teachers. They are very organized and they challenge(d) me a lot! They do many things that make a teacher special. For example, Ms. Gessner created bookworms to encourage us to read. She taught us how to blog, which taught us how to type and talk to each other online. She discovered the amazing website www.worldmathday.com, and she introduced us to the Franciscan apartment seniors, and how to help them. Mrs. Riedeman was wonderful in many ways. She taught us to be self-managers, at home and at school. I loved the April Fool's Day test that taught us to read directions! Raz-kids was new and interesting, too. Most of all, Mrs. Riedeman was kind and funny and always helped me to be my best. I really enjoyed being in their classes. Happy "Teacher's Appreciation Week!"

The things I'd hope for in a teacher are kindness, helpfulness, and the ability to make learning fun... also known as making learning totally awesome!
A teacher that I feel has changed my life is Ms.Gessner because she makes learning fun, like all of the songs that she teaches us, like the fractions song. She makes learning almost as fun as video games too. She also uses her belongings as in Pete the Pig to inspire kids to be good.
P.S. I hope everyone had a good Mother's Day
Sincerely,
Zachary#27********************$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$********************************!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ms. Gessner do you think tour students are good or EVIL!!!Wrere you orginized when you started 12 years ago? Do you get mad when you keep on telling someone something and they don't get it right? Did someone not pass when you were teaching them. I hope not. Have you ever got so mad at someone that you yelled at them? Has anyone inspired you to teach or did you just want to teach children. Do you like it when the children who you're teaching ask a question?
Phanuel
What I hope for in a teacher is one that is loving, understanding and helpful. A good teacher needs to be patience and make learning fun. My Grandpa, Uncle and mom are teachers. I also have many cousins that are teachers. Maybe one day I will be a teacher too! I want all the teachers at St. Francis to know that I feel they are the best teachers ever!
by Andrew #3
Dear Abigail,
My favorite subject to teach is math. I like playing with numbers and seeing how they work together.
I get many of my ideas from other teachers, workshops, teacher magazines and my experience working at summer camp awhile ago.
~ Ms. Gessner
Celia,
I worked at a public school in Spokane before I came to St. Francis of Assisi. It was also a 3rd grade classroom.
It's easy to stay awake during school because you all keep me on my toes.
~ Ms. Gessner
Madison,
Thank you for the wonderful compliment! I really felt appreciated after I read your blog.
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. My favorite part of teaching is being surrounded by children all day. You all keep me young.
2. My favorite fun activity is having your families/pet come for VIP on Friday.
3. My most embarrassing moment as a teacher was when I overslept one morning. I was only about 15 minutes late to school, but that was not a proud moment for me.
4. In all my years of teaching, the most amazing achievement was when a student from my first class told me she was going into teaching because I inspired her. I felt very honored.
P.S. That was written by Ms. Gessner.
Zach E.,
Thank you for the compliment. I'm glad to hear I'm almost as fun as video games. That made me laugh.
~ Ms. Gessner
Phanuel,
Here are the answers to your questions.
1. I think all the students are good. God doesn't make junk.
2. I was pretty organized 12 years ago when I started teaching. I just didn't have as many fun activities. I gain new ideas each and every year.
3. I try not to get mad when someone doesn't get something right even after I've told him/her. If it's a reminder like to stop talking, that can be frustrating to a teacher. We don't like to have to remind kids how they should be behaving.
4. I try not to raise my voice at children. If I stay calm, it helps me think better.
5. I've been lucky to have many great teachers. I've also had a couple teachers that were disappointing. Believe it or not, I learned from both types of teachers. The great teachers were wonderful role models. The teachers that I didn't click with taught me how to face challenges.
6. I don't mind answering questions from kids, but maybe I should put a limit of 2 questions per student so I'm not spending too much time at the computer.
~ Ms. Gessner
What I think makes a good teacher is someone who can make learning fun like Ms. Gessner. She has proven that a teacher isn't just some person that tortures and quizzes you for eight hours. We have done lots of fun things like raffle tickets, debit cards for learning poems and holiday dollars.
What do you do while were in P.E.? How do you plan your day?
Drew#10

Dear Drew,
Thank you for the great compliment. I'm glad you're enjoying 3rd grade.
When the class is at P.E., I usually write my newsletter, correct papers and respond to parent's emails.
In order to plan the day, I do that over the weekend. Usually on Sundays, I sit down at my computer and figure out what I'd like to do with the class for all the subjects from Monday through Friday. Then I print it out and they are called lesson plans. Your mom might do the same thing since she's a teacher too. When Monday begins, I know what we'll be doing for the entire week and it keeps me organized.
~ Ms. Gessner
Nathan,
Thank you for bringing a smile to my face with your thoughtful blog.
~ Ms. Gessner
Dear Julia,
Whew! You're giving me a lot of homework with all those questions. It's a good thing I can type pretty fast. By the way, thank you for the compliments. You are so thoughtful.
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. I usually leave school around 5:00 or 5:30 p.m.
2. My favorite subject in school was math. It's still my favorite subject, but it can get a little hard at times.
3. My dad and my aunt were teachers. I was inspired by them first. Then I had a great college professor who helped me decide for sure that I was going to become a teacher.
4. Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to work with children. Teaching seemed like the best choice because you get summers off. :-)
5. If I wasn't teaching, I'd like to host a travel show like Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel.
6. It's hard to pick a favorite thing a student has done for me since everyday is a joy getting to spend it in the company of children.
7. If I didn't teach 3rd grade, I might be interested in 2nd or 4th grade.
8. See my answer in an earlier blog for this one.
9. When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher's name was Mr. Stokes. It was a 2nd/3rd grade mixed classroom.
10. We really don't have a name picked out yet for the baby. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
11. I chose St. Francis of Assisi School because I love to share my faith with the students. I also wanted to work with students who liked to learn. It seems like Catholic schools tend to have strong students with parents that really help out. It's a dream job for a teacher!
~ Ms. Gessner
What I hope for in a teacher is helpfulness, appriceation, patience, kindness and always a smile on her face. What a good teacher makes is helps with

JACK NELSON#13
Dear Cassidy & Jack,
My favorite color is purple.
My birthday is July 5th.
My age is....you'll find out on the last day of school. :-)
~ Ms. Gessner
I would like to ask two questions about being a teacher.
1. How much school do you have to go through to be a teacher?
2. How old do you have to be to be a teacher?
Whatever your answer is, you're still the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love being in your class I enjoy it so much. If I was ever a teacher I would teach third grade in memory of you. You're a great teacher and you're awesome and fun. Everybody that I know that passed third grade and sometimes other people say that you're so cool, awesome , smart , enjoyable , and fun! I will always remember you and you're my favorite teacher. Ever since I knew I had you as a teacher I was so excited, and Because of your class I always will be. I feel so special you are my teacher. Well done with that now I'm sorry but theres more stuff to say. I love how you teach, explain , solve , think , have fun , play games, and laugh. P.S I don't know how to spell that]. I know you will always remember us. I know you love teaching, but when you leave school I want you to know that just because you stop teaching and your baby is tiny doesn't mean you have to not teach it division. You are so kind hearted and always will be no matter what. You are the very best teacher ever! I think I know so much from you and you support us in problem and always know what to do (: [ smiley face]. Now that you heard a little to much i'll ask you some questions.

Dear Cailin,
Wow! Did you type that whole blog yourself? That had to take a long time. Thank you for saying such sweet things about me.
I've enjoyed teaching this class because they like to learn. You all seem to take on challenges like typing the blog or doing worldmathsday.com. It's great to see such motivated learners.
Some of my favorite baby names are Emily and Hayley. My husband and I still aren't sure what we will name the baby. He likes different names than I do so we'll have to find a compromise.
See you tomorrow!
~ Ms. Gessner
Someone wrote a blog at 7:42 p.m. but didn't leave their name. To the mystery person, here are my answers:
1. I finished high school and went on to college to learn how to be a teacher. College took me 5 years. Then I went to graduate school for 2 more years to get a Masters degree. Since I started kindergarten, I've been a student for 20 years!
2. To be a teacher, you have to finish college. That means the youngest teachers are in their early 20s.
~ Ms. Gessner
What I want for am teacher ius a great hear and a bit of playing around! 1:How do you like teaching children? 2:What grade would you like to teach the most? (You could say I like teaching 3rd grade the most.)
