Question of the Week #11

Dear class,

On January 19th, President-elect Barack Obama will be moving into the White House with his wife and two daughters. Think about a time when you had to go somewhere new. Perhaps you were the new student in school or maybe you had to move from one house to another. If you have never moved, tell us about a time when you went somewhere new for the first time. Remember to check your work for mistakes before you post your blog for all to see. If you answer this question thoughtfully, you'll get 2 extra credit points for your social studies grade.

My first trip to Sri Lanka was the most exciting time. I had never been there and it was a long plane ride.

It took us two days to get there. When we got to Sri Lanka it was really hot. I got to meet a lot of my cousins and made a lot of friends.

When we were there we went on an elephant safari where we saw a lot of elephants. We climbed a rock called Sigiriya where a king built his castle about about two thousand years ago. I also played a lot on the beach. My favorite part was taking an elephant ride with my brothers and cousins in the jungle.

We stayed with my cousins Jehan, Mickey and Ronali and they are lots of fun. I had a great time and miss Sri lanka and want to back soon.

The first time I went to San Fransisco,I had a great time.I was seven.I had to wake up at five in the morning.By the time I left to go on the plane it was just starting to lighten up.I was exited but kind of scared to meet new people even though they were my cousins.I had to go to a wedding.I had a great time and didn't want to leave so early.

One time that I had to move was when my family moved to a house close to the school. It makes it a lot easier like on the ride to school or when we need to walk. I'm really enjoying it here;) !!!!!

My first time living here was when we moved from North Carolina. I had no friends at first but I liked our house. Then I met Nate. After awhile, Nate moved. Then I found another friend named Christopher. We are still friends to this day.

My first trip to Colorado I was so scared that my family weren't there. So when I went there I saw them and we stayed at there house. My grandma and my sister were sleeping on the bed and my brother and I were sleeping on the ground. Timmy , Macala and Mackey were awesome. Then we missed our plane. Then we had to stay a day more. Then we went home. By, ~Phanuel

Going on my first plane ride was a little bitt scarry to me. Probably because I was six years old. It was my first trip to Disny land. It was exciting to get to Disny land but the plane ride I didn't care for.BY Matthew C.

I remember moving into our new house. It was good because it was bigger and we kept switching couches. The first was blue, second was white and the third on was brown.

When we first moved to the house I liked jumping off the stairs, and that we had a deck.

It made me nervous to go upstairs by myself- because I was 2 1/2.

Two years ago, I went to New Mexico for the first time. I was very excited because I want to see my cousins' new house in Espanola, New Mexico. My cousins Faye and Jourselle, my parents, my Uncle Tom and I had a long drive going there. It's a very nice experience driving from Washington to New Mexico. The states we passed by are Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Colorado. We saw beautiful mountains, canyons, hills and plains. We stopped over and took pictures in these beautiful places. Sometimes there was traffic on the highway but I didn't get bored because my cousins were there to talk to. When we arrived in Espanola, New Mexico we were so tired but happy because we met my Auntie Pam whom we did not see for a long time. She is a a teacher in Espanola. I like Espanola, New Mexico because the weather is not very cold. It's a simple and quiet city. We helped my cousins' family move to their new house. We helped them shop for the things they needed like kitchen supplies, beddings, food and others. My cousins just came from the Philippines at that time so we helped them move to their new school too. Faye was feeling a little bit shy but excited to meet her new classmates and teachers. I was happy helping my cousins to have a new life in America.

When I moved houses it was very weird, we looked at about 100 houses!!! We had to live in my grandma's house until we finally found the one I'm in right now.I went camping with my cousin Jacob a couple days before we left. My mom picked me up and took me to my old house to pick up the rest of my stuff. My house looked like a blank piece of paper. It turned out to be very fun, I'm very happy in my new house. The first time I went to Australia, I was only 7 months old, so now I can't remember it, but one time that I do vividly remember is when I visited Australia when I was six. It was a very eventful trip.
First, we flew to San Francisco. That took just two hours.
Then, we caught the plane that would take us to Sydney, Australia. It was an overnight flight and it would take 19 hours. I had done this before, but there is one thing that made this trip the most exciting of all. Halfway in between Sydney and San Francisco, one of the engines broke! There were 4 engines in all, though, and the plane could work with just one. Still, even though we were past Hawaii, the pilot decided to take us all the way back to San Francisco because that's where the airline's mechanics were based.
It was 2.30am and all the hotels were full. Most people slept in the airport, but luckily, we found one of the last rooms available. The next day, we had time to ride the cable cars, go to a maritime museum near Fisherman's Wharf and swim in the hotel pool before heading back to the airport after dinner for another overnight flight. We had a great time in Australia and will never forget that trip and our unexpected stop.

My first Monster truck show was exciting. It was very loud. There was a quad race. The person on the red quad won twice. I can't wait to go to the Monster truck show again this Friday.

A time when I had to go somewhere new was when it was my 1st cross country meet. It was at Woodland Park zoo I came in 20th place out of 100 people. I was very excited about my first cross country game because I thought it was going to be very fun and it was. When the race began there were tons of people that had to sqwish together and we had to run a half mile. There was a kid who was too slow I actually knocked him over. I crossed the finish line very happy. My mom and tons of other people were there to watch me cross the finish line. I got tons of treats when it ended. P.S. I have my ribbon in my backpack.
