Question of the Week #4

Every year, Americans celebrate Veteran's Day on November 11th. Veteran's Day is a time to show our appreciation to all the soldiers past and present that serve in the Armed Forces (for example the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines). By joining the Armed Forces, men and women often leave behind the comforts of their home and family to protect and serve the United States. In honor of this holiday, write a blog in the form of a note to a soldier. You can express your gratitude for their service to our country. You can wish them well. You can tell them if someone in your family was in the Armed Forces. At the end of the week, I'll print out everyone's responses and mail them to the soldiers who are currently serving in Iraq. This assignment is worth 2 extra credit points for your social studies grade.

Dear Brave Soldiers,
It should be hard going away from your family! I really understand how you must feel because most of my relatives live far from me. They live in the Philippines. But the big difference is that you all sacrifice your lives for our country. You all make a BIG DIFFERENCE! My Grandpa Art retired from the U.S. Navy and my Aunt Euly is also a nurse in the U.S. Navy. My Dad was in the Philippine Marines. I'm very proud of them. I'm also very proud of you. You are making our country safe. Thanks for all your hard work! I'm praying for your safety too. You are our heroes!

Love,
Abigail

Hi class,
Do you know what I did today? Well, I went on the Mountaineers hike in Bremerton! We did it because the salmon are spawning in Chico Creek. It is very cold there. In fact, I even wore my skiing coat! We found a lot of different kinds of mushrooms and plants. There were some plants that were eaten by animals! At the end of the trail there was a big tree that was about four hundred years old! Now, that's old. On that tree there was a red and orange Salamander. When ever we got close to it, it would curl up so that it looked like it was as old as the tree. The salmon were intresting, too. They were all different in size, shape and color. A couple were dead. One, (my favorite one) was purple on its left side, but yellow on its right. I was surprised by that! After that, we parked our car in the ferry line and went to lunch at Anthony's. Funny thing about it, but after seeing salmon spawn we had them for lunch! Soon afterwards it was time for the ferry. After one hour on the ferry we went back home. By Madison

Dear Soldiers,
Thank you for being brave for our country. My Grandpa has been in the Army for 30 years and it was very sad when he left for 2 years. He has to go again soon and I will miss him. My other Grandpa was in the Coast Guard. It must be very hard to be away from your friends and family. Please be safe and come back soon!
Love,
Cailin
